Gerard Moreno is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball program in 2007 following a successful four-year playing career. As a member of the Ducks from 2003-06, Moreno helped the team to a combined record of 78-65.
As a senior in 2006, Moreno had an outstanding season as he batted .295 with 44 runs scored and 20 runs batted in. The Ducks finished the year with an overall record of 27-12 and set a new school record for wins in a season in the process. Moreno, who went 5-1 with a 2.12 earned-run average in nine appearances as one of the aces of the pitching staff, was named a Skyline Conference second-team all-star. He was also selected as an all-state honorable mention by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association. In 2005, Moreno was named a New York Region all-star by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Over the course of his career, Moreno amassed a record of 16-8 and had a 3.18 earned-run average while pitching 178.1 innings. His 16 wins place him third on the Ducks’ all-time list for career victories. He is also third with 35 career appearances.
In addition, Moreno’s 30 stolen bases in 2006 are the third-highest total for a single season in program history. His nine starts last season are tied for the fourth-highest total ever at Stevens. Moreno also went 6-2 in 2005 – giving him the seventh-highest winning percentage (0.750) in school history.
In 2006, Moreno set a school record with five stolen bases in a game against Maritime College. He also tied the Ducks’ single-game mark for hits (five) and runs (five) during his senior season.
