In August of 2005, Joe Agnello was hired as an assistant baseball coach at Stevens Institute of Technology. He works extensively with on-field coaching as well as select administrative facets of the program.
A native of Howell, N.J., Agnello spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, N.J. During his two years on the coaching staff at Brookdale, the program accumulated more than 70 victories and produced several all-conference and all-region selections as well as a first-team All-American. In 2005, the Jersey Blue posted a 42-6 record and qualified for the Junior College World Series in Millington, Tenn. The 2004 team advanced to the regional championship.
Prior to working at Brookdale, Agnello was a standout shortstop and second baseman for the Jersey Blues from 2000-01. In his two years with the team, Agnello led Brookdale to a combined 62-28 record. The Jersey Blues came within one game of the Junior College World Series both seasons. Agnello was an everyday starter while at Brookdale and captained the team as a sophomore in 2001.
After earning an associate’s degree from Brookdale in 2001, Agnello enrolled at Division I Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., where he earned a spot on the Seahawks’ baseball team. He started 48 games at second base as a junior before moving to third base where he started 46 games his senior season. Agnello, who captained the team as a senior in 2003, was near the top of the Northeast Conference in walks during his final season. He graduated from Wagner with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in May of 2003.
Upon graduation, Agnello was offered a contract to play professionally in Italy. Over the past couple of seasons, Agnello has played in several summer leagues. His brother, Jim, serves as an assistant baseball coach at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
