Joe Agnello enters his third season as an assistant coach for the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team in 2008. He also serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator and assists with practice organization and game management.
Last season, Agnello assisted Head Coach John Crane in leading the Ducks to the finals of the Skyline Conference Tournament. He also helped produce a pair of all-region players in Joe Gunshor and Adam Sandt.
The previous year, Agnello helped the Ducks set a school record for most wins in a single season with 27 victories in 2006. In addition, he aided in the continued development of Sandt, who earned first-team all-state and all-region honors.
Prior to Stevens, Agnello spent his first two seasons as an assistant coach at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, N.J. During his time with the Jersey Blues, the team compiled more than 70 victories and manufactured several all-conference and all-region honorees as well as a first-team All-American.
As a player, Agnello was a starting middle infielder for Brookdale from 2000-01. In his two years with the team, Agnello led the Jersey Blues to a combined record of 62-25. Moreover, Brookdale came within one game of the Junior College World Series in both seasons that he was there.
Following his tenure at Brookdale, Agnello enrolled at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., where he earned a spot on the Seahawks’ baseball team. On the field, Agnello started 38 games at second base and 10 contests behind the plate as a junior before making the move to third base, where he started 46 games in his senior year. He was also named the team captain in 2003.
Upon graduating from Wagner with a B.S. in Marketing, Agnello was offered a contract to play professionally for the Avigliana Bees Baseball Club in Italy.
