Michael Collins, a Stevens Institute of Technology alumnae of 2007, is currently in his 15th season as an assistant coach for the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team.

During his tenure, Collins has played a vital role in the team’s success, contributing to 11 consecutive seasons of at least 18 wins, three NCAA Tournament appearances, 14 conference tournament appearances, one Empire 8 Conference regular-season crown, three MAC Freedom Tournament Crowns, and an ECAC Metro Championship.
 
Collins’ contributions extend beyond his time with the men’s program. He also spent two seasons as a member of the women’s staff in 2007-08 and 2008-09. During this period, he helped the team achieve its first-ever E8 Championship and NCAA Tournament win, along with nearly 50 wins over 2 seasons.
 
In addition to his coaching duties, Collins served as the assistant director of campus recreation. In 2011, he was recognized with the Edwin “Doc” Farrell Award, an annual award given to an individual who embodies the ideals of integrity, service, conduct, and dedication to the athletics program.
 
As a Player:

  • Collins played in all 30 games for the Ducks during his senior year.
  • He led the team to an impressive 23-7 overall record.
  • Collins secured the program’s first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
  • His team won two games in the tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16.
  • Collins lost to the eventual national champion, Amherst College, in the Sweet 16.
  • Upon concluding his playing career, Collins was honored with the Frank Partel Basketball Award.

Outside of the Pond: 
In 2011, Collins earned his Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in coaching and conditioning from LIU-Brooklyn. Since 2016, he has been the Basketball Director and NBA/Overseas Skills Training at Basketball @ Pier 36 in Manhattan. He works with a number of NBA and Overseas pros & partners with the Jr. NBA, Jr. Knicks and NBPA on various summer youth basketball camps.
