Waleed Farid

Waleed Farid ‘08 enters his fifth season as the top assistant on the Stevens men's basketball coaching staff in 2016-17, after being promoted to that position in October of 2012. Farid previously served as a volunteer assistant with the Ducks starting in 2009 after a highly decorated playing career on Castle Point.

Farid has been instrumental in the Ducks success on the court, serving as an assistant for 20+ win seasons in 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13. The streak is the longest of its kind in the program’s history, besting the previous mark of two straight set during Farid’s playing career.

Stevens has reached the Empire 8 Conference Championship in all but one of Farid’s seasons on the bench, including an appearance in the title game in 2012-13. It was during that season that the Ducks received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.

A total of 14 student-athletes have received all-conference recognition during Farid’s time on the staff, in addition to nods on the NABC All-District Team, the D3hoops.com All-Region Team, the ECAC All-Metro Region Team, and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Team. Team-wise, Farid helped lead the Ducks to the program’s second ECAC Championship in 2011.

As a student-athlete, Farid was one of the most decorated players in program history, guiding the Ducks to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament in 2007 and the program’s first-ever ECAC Metro title in 2008. Farid graduated Stevens as the career leader in points, rebounds and steals, and still sits top-10 in several career categories.

Farid was a three-time all-conference selection in addition to a preseason All-American for the 2007-08 season, while earning NABC All-Atlantic District and All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association honors in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Faird earned the Frank Partel Men’s Basketball Award and was named Stevens’ Male Athlete of the Year in 2007-08.

Upon graduation from Stevens, Farid went overseas to play for Alexandria Sporting Club in Egypt, averaging 10 points in just 15 minutes per game.
