In August of 2007, Matt Madalon joined the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team as an assistant coach. He will work primarily with the Ducks’ defense and goalkeepers.
Madalon began his collegiate lacrosse career at Division I Hofstra University. After sitting out the 2002 campaign, Madalon played for the Pride in 2003 before transferring to Roanoke College in Virginia for his final three seasons.
While at Roanoke, Madalon helped lead the Maroons to a pair of appearances in the national semifinals. During his junior season in 2005, Madalon was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year and garnered first-team all-conference honors. He was also selected as a second-team All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association after leading Roanoke to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, where the Maroons lost to eventual national champion Salisbury University.
Madalon continued his fine play in 2006 as he was named a second-team All-American once again. He also earned first-team All-ODAC accolades. As captain of the Maroons, Madalon guided Roanoke to the ODAC title and a return trip to the national semifinals.
After graduating from Roanoke with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Madalon taught history at an air force base in Aviano, Italy for six months before returning to the United States to serve as an assistant lacrosse coach at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia for the 2007 season.
A native of Darien, Conn., Madalon was acquired in the sixth round of the 2007 Major League Lacrosse supplemental draft by the San Francisco Dragons. He competed in his first season of professional lacrosse with San Francisco from April through August in 2007. Madalon will return to the team in the summer of 2008.
