Zach Carr

Joining the staff for the 2011 season are former Stevens first-team All-Americans Nick Gkionis and Zach Carr.

2011 graduate Zach Carr finished his career at Stevens as the unofficial NCAA leader in career shutouts with 55 and posted the third-best career goals-against average (.380) in Division III history. The Carmel, Ind. native posted a nearly year-long streak where he did not allow a goal – from November 9, 2009 through October 13, 2010 – the second-longest streak in NCAA history.

In his senior year, Carr led the nation in save percentage (.927), goals-against average (.29) and shutout percentage (.80). He was named a first-team All-American for the second-straight year and took home the NCAA Top VIII Award, which recognizes both academic and athletic excellence. Carr graduated with a 3.92 grade-point average as a Biomedical Engineering major.

“Zach Carr has been the face of the program the past four years as a player and it is exciting to have him on the sidelines now in a coaching capacity,” said interim head coach Devin Rensing. “His career exemplifies what it means to be a Stevens Institute of Technology student-athlete.  He knows what Stevens soccer is all about - what it takes to be great not only on the field but in the classroom as well.  He will be primarily be working with the goalies but will also be relied upon in every aspect of the program.”

In 2010, Carr played every second between the pipes for Stevens, giving up just four goals in the regular season and making 76 saves as the Ducks posted a 15-2-3 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. In 2009, Carr again played every second of every game and gave up just seven goals. He posted a 17-3-2 record, with 16 shutouts to his credit.

In 2008, Carr led the Ducks to the national championship game as a sophomore, starting every game as Stevens made the deepest run in the NCAA tournament in its history. He posted 16 shutouts and made 72 saves on the year.

As a freshman in 2007, Carr started every game and earned a 17-1-3 record, including 13 shutouts. Until the 2011 season, no other player had started in goal for Stevens since 2006.
