PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomore right-hander Alberto Bocus gave up just two runs on six hits over seven innings to lead Manhattanville College to a 3-2 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday in a Knickerbocker Conference baseball game.

Manhattanville (5-6, 3-0 Knickerbocker) scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Sophomore shortstop John Previti led off with a triple and later scored on an error to give the Valiants a 3-1 lead.  Previti also scored the game’s first run when he drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first and scored from second on a single by sophomore third baseman Rich Battista.

Manhattanville extended its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth.  Freshman catcher Luke Crum singled, stole second and scored on a double by senior right fielder Drew Crowley.

Stevens (2-9, 1-3 Knickerbocker) got one run back in the top of the fifth.  Senior second baseman C.J. Ecke (Bayville, N.Y./Central) singled with two out, stole second and scored on a double by junior third baseman Gerard Strein (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola).

After Previti scored to put Manhattanville up 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Stevens again pulled to within a run in the top of the seventh.  Junior left fielder Adam Yoda (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) reached base on a one-out single.  After stealing second and third, he came home on Ecke’s two-out single.  Bocus came up with a strikeout with two out to end the inning.  The game was then called due to rain.

Senior right-hander Jason Edelman (1-3) suffered the loss for Stevens.  He gave up one run in three hits in two innings.  Edelman walked one and struck out one.  Sophomores Michael Carrano and Joe Martin pitched two innings apiece with each giving up a run.

Ecke and senior catcher Marlin Genao (Paterson, N.J./Paterson) had two hits each to lead Stevens.

The Ducks return to action on Saturday, March 29, when they host Manhattanville in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
