HOBOKEN, N.J. – First baseman Ferdi German’s two-run double highlighted a four-run sixth inning that lifted Lehman College to an 8-4 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday in a Knickerbocker Conference baseball game at the Dobbelaar Baseball Field.

Lehman improves to 8-9 overall and 7-6 in the Knickerbocker.  Stevens falls to 7-14 overall and 6-8 in the league.

Lehman erased a 2-1 deficit by scoring four runs on five hits in the top of the sixth.  The first four batters reached base in the inning.  Center fielder Jason Whitfield had a leadoff single.  Shortstop Carlos Ramirez and catcher Johary Burgos followed with back-to-back doubles to produce the first run and tie the game.  After a walk and a flyout, German laced a bases-loaded double down the first-base line to give the Lightning a 4-2 lead.  German then scored on a two-out single by second baseman Adalberto Rodriguez.

Lehman added two runs in the seventh on a two-out double by designated hitter Jason Castillo.  Whitfield hit a solo home run to lead off the ninth that gave the Lightning an 8-2 lead.

Stevens scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning.  Junior first baseman Ben Shaw (Wayne, Pa./Upper Merion) drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a double to right-center by sophomore right fielder Kevin Suders (Mapleton Depot, Pa./Mount Union Area).  Suders came home on a groundout by freshman center fielder Tim Meehan (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) to put the Ducks ahead 2-0.

Suders, who went 2-for-5, also had a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth.  Sophomore second baseman Jeff Drobik (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley) went 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice to lead the Ducks at the plate.

Lehman had 12 hits.  Whitfield, who entered the game in the bottom of the third inning as a defensive replacement, went 3-for-3 to lead the Lightning.  Lehman starter Daniel Calcano gave up five hits and two runs in seven innings to pick up the win.  He walked five and struck out one.

The Ducks return to action on Thursday night, April 17, when they host Farmingdale State in 7 p.m. game at the Dobbelaar Baseball Field.
