KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Senior right-hander Jason Edelman (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park) surrendered just one unearned run in a complete-game effort, but the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team dropped a 1-0 decision to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Monday in a Knickerbocker Conference game.

Kings Point (9-16-1, 6-8 Knickerbocker) scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.  Junior Al Giordano reached on a throwing error and advanced to second to open the inning.  After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Giordano came home on a groundout to second by senior Steve Casapulla.

Stevens (8-18, 7-11 Knickerbocker) was shut out for the second straight time by junior right-hander Ben Earnest.  Earnest, who came within one out of a no-hitter in Kings Point’s 7-0 win over Stevens on April 12, scattered eight hits over nine innings on Monday.  He struck out nine and walked just one.

Edelman turned in his best performance of the season with an eight-inning complete game.  He surrendered just nine hits while striking out two without a walk.  Stevens committed six errors behind him.

Offensively, the Ducks were led by junior left fielder Adam Yoda (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) who went 3-for-4.  Senior James Bailey (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) was 2-for-4.

Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, April 23, when it hosts Centenary College in a non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
