HOBOKEN, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology earned victories at all six singles spots without dropping a set en route to a 9-0 win over St. Joseph’s-Patchogue on Saturday in a Skyline Conference women’s tennis match.
Junior Kari Munger (Morristown, N.J./Newark Academy) and senior Aracely Cruz (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) remained unbeaten in singles play. Munger, who improved to 6-0, earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Heather Conklin at first singles. Cruz earned an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory over Colleen Fitzgerald at second singles, improving to 4-0 on the season. Munger and Cruz also earned an 8-3 win over Conklin and Fitzgerald at first doubles.
Stevens also received singles victories from junior Hiral Shah (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), junior Kathy Martinez (Rockland, N.Y./Ramapo) and senior Tina Yulo (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) at third, fourth and fifth singles respectively. Freshman Vendita Shah (Bloomfield, N.J./North Bergen) received a forfeit victory at sixth singles.
In the closest match of the day, junior Suzanne Woodrow (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) and freshman Amy Pavlakovich (Aurora, Colo.) outlasted Melissa McDonald and Carly Nappi at second doubles, 8-6.
Stevens returns to action on Sunday, September 21, with a 2 p.m. match at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
