Munger Extends Streak, But Women's Tennis Falls to Rensselaer, 8-1

TROY, N.Y. – Junior Kari Munger (Morristown, N.J./Newark Academy) earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Annie Erdekian at first singles, but the Stevens women’s tennis team lost to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 8-1, on Sunday at Sharp Courts.

Munger improved to 7-0 at first singles this season and 23-0 in her Stevens career with a straight-sets victory at first singles.

Senior Aracely Cruz (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) suffered her first loss of the season, falling to 4-1 at the second singles position.  Cruz captured her opening set against Raimi Ishikawa, but lost the next to sets, falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.  Cruz and Munger were also beaten for the first time in five matches as the Ducks top doubles tandem, falling 9-7 to Erdekian and Ishikawa.

Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, September 24 with a 4 p.m. Skyline Conference match at home against Yeshiva.
