Women's Volleyball Comes Up Short in Five-Game Loss to Mount St. Mary

Gina Joyce had 13 kills, 37 assists and 23 digs against Mount St. Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Stevens women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five game match to Mount St. Mary College on Tuesday. The Blue Knights won the last two games en route to a 27-30, 30-28, 26-30, 30-26, 15-5 win over the Ducks in a Skyline Conference match.

Mount St. Mary remains unbeaten in Skyline play, improving to 3-0 in the conference and 4-4 overall. Stevens falls to 1-2 in the league and 9-7 overall.

Sophomore setter Gina Joyce (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake), the Skyline Conference Player of the Week last week, continued her strong play as she recorded her first triple-double of the season with 13 kills, 37 assists and 23 digs. Joyce's assist total was just one shy of her school record of 38 set on Friday at Russell Sage.

Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day) also had 13 kills along with 21 digs. Freshman Micki Biltz (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) recorded 12 kills and 16 digs.

Stevens also received a strong defensive performance from sophomore ManYan Cheng (Jersey City, N.J./McNair) who had a season-high 21 digs. Feshman libero Jin Bai (Edison, N.J./Edison) who finished with 14 digs.

The Ducks were without junior Margeritte Abdelkodoos (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington), the team's leader in kills, who suffered an ankle injury at the Russell Sage Invitational over the weekend.

Stevens is back in action on Saturday, September 27, when it participates in a WIAC tri-match at New Jersey City with Centenary.
