HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior forward Shinobu Bharaj had a goal and an assist to lead Drew University to a 2-1 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday in a non-conference women’s soccer game at DeBaun Field.

All of the scoring came early in the second half.  Drew (5-2-2) broke a scoreless deadlock in the 49th minute when Bharaj broke in the left side of the penalty area and sent a pass across the goal mouth to sophomore Julie Strain at the far post.  Strain scored her sixth goal of the season from six yards to put the Rangers ahead.

Stevens (4-5-0) pulled even in the 61st minute.  Freshman forward Heather Dean (Renton, Wash./Charles A. Lindbergh) gained control of a short goal kick and chipped a pass ahead to junior Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area).  Barnhart hit a volley from the top of the penalty area over charging goalkeeper Danielle Vento to tie the score at 1-1.

Less than six minutes later, Drew sophomore Katherine Trawinski sent a pass through the middle to Bharaj who split the Stevens defense and beat freshman goalkeeper Erica Midttveit to the lower right corner with the game winner at 66:04.

Stevens held a 20-7 advantage in shots, including 13-3 in the second half.  The Ducks also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.  Vento turned in a strong game in net with six saves for Drew.

Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, October 1, with a 4 p.m. Skyline Conference game against Mount St. Mary in Newburgh, N.Y.
