HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Junior Kari Munger (Morristown, N.J./Newark Academy) earned a 7-6, 7-6 win at first singles as the Stevens women’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to William Smith College on Tuesday.

Munger, who rebounded from her first dual-match singles loss on Monday, defeated Meghan Kelley in a close two-set match.  Munger and Kelly played even throughout both sets with neither player gaining more than a one game advantage.  Munger pulled out a 9-7 victory in the first-set tiebreaker and captured the second-set tiebreaker, 7-3.

Stevens also captured the third doubles match as junior Suzanne Woodrow (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) and freshman Amy Pavlakovich (Aurora, Colo.) beat Kristen Alley and Heidi Ambroazitis, 8-5.

The third singles match went to 3 sets.  Stevens senior Tina Yulo (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) dropped the opening set 6-3 against Kristin Dowling, but rallied to take the second set 6-4 coming back from a 4-1 deficit.  Dowling prevailed in the final set as she defeated Yulo, 6-1.

The Stevens women take on St. Lawrence on Wednesday, March 17, in Hilton Head while the men’s team faces Westminster (Pa.) on Wednesday.
