MADISON, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team earned its first win of the season, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham 8-0 Wednesday afternoon. Senior Kari Munger (Morristown, N.J./Newark Academy) led the Ducks with a perfect singles performance, shutting out Amina Doer 6-0, 6-0.
Stevens captured first and second doubles to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. Munger and freshman Ariel Wan (Sayerville, N.J./Sayerville War Memorial) defeated Caitlan Wyble and Julie Hartnett 8-1 and freshman Dana Bacalla (Portland, Ore./Westview) and Jacqueline Carbone (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) defeated Eve Rodriguez and Doer 8-1.
Stevens continued to dominate in singles and recorded victories at first through third singles with Munger (6-0, 6-0), Bacalla (6-1, 6-0) and Wan (6-0, 7-6) leading the team. Senior Kathy Martinez (Rockland, N.Y./Ramapo) also dominated fifth singles and defeated Robin Hargesheimer 6-2, 6-3.
The Stevens women’s tennis team is back in action on Sunday, October 24-26, when it competes in the ITA Northeast Championship.
