Wrestling falls short to Centenary 27-26

Freshman Mike Detsis improves to 11-0 in duals with a win over Centenary at 141.

HADDON TOWNSHIP, N.J.–Freshman Michael Detsis (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) improved to 11-0 in dual matches and the Ducks won five matches on the day, but the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team dropped a dual meet to Centenary College, 27-26 on Wednesday night.

Junior Pat Falvey (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) won the Ducks first match at 133 by fall over Victor Ramirez.  Detsis gave Stevens a 12-6 advantage with a win by fall over Brian Steward.  The Cyclones tied the score at 12 a piece with a win at 149, but freshmen Brandon MacWhinnie (Barton, N.Y./Tioga Central) and Ryan Bennick (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Senior)  won back to back matches at 157 and 165 to give the Ducks their biggest lead of the day, 23-12.  Centenary won by fall at 174 and Stevens’ sophomore Will Young (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) answered back with a decision over Eric Foley at 184.  The Cyclones won the last two matches to pull out the win over the Ducks.

The Ducks return to action when they host Scranton in their last home dual match of the season on Saturday, January 22 at Noon.
