10-Goal Second Half Keys Men’s Soccer Past SUNY-Old Westbury , 11-1

OLD WESTBURY, NY – Junior Chris McGreevy (Rochester Hills, MI) scored four goals and senior Steve Liebezeit (Pompton Lakes, NJ) added three scores as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team cruised to an 11-1 victory over SUNY-Old Westbury with 10 second-half goals Saturday in Old Westbury, NY. Stevens extends its Skyline Conference winning streak to 21 games, with its third-straight win to improve to 3-0 in conference play and 5-3-2 overall. Old Westbury falls to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Stevens found itself down for the first time in three matches after Old Westbury’s Alex Renwart scored off an assist from Shawn Holland in the 23rd minute. The goal ended a streak of 282:03 without surrendering a score.

Liebezeit’s first goal, a header off a cross from McGreevy tied the match at 1-1 with one second remaining in the first half.

McGreevy opened the second half with a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes to give the Ducks a 3-1 advantage. The junior put home Liebezeit’s cross from the left side for his first goal in the 53rd minute. Sophomore Ryan Wilkison (Harrisburg, PA) fed McGreevy up the middle, who beat the keeper on a breakaway for his second goal.

Sophomore Mike Kaiser (Roy, UT) added a pair of scores himself within a span of a minute to open up a 5-1 lead for the Ducks. He registered an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute then took a cross from sophomore Craig Moquin (Breinigsville, PA) 46 seconds later for his second goal of the match.

McGreevy recorded his third goal in the 67th minute, receiving a pass from sophomore Chris Greenfield (Scottsdale, AZ).  

Liebezeit and McGreevy hooked up one more time for the first of consecutive scores for Liebezeit. McGreevy found Liebezeit on a cross in the 69th minute and the senior powered home a shot from five yards out. Liebezeit then collected a loose ball of a rebound and registered his third tally of the game. 

Liebezeit now has 10 goals in his last seven games. Saturday also marked the senior’s second hat trick of the season. He also scored three goals in a 7-0 victory at FDU-Florham. Sept. 17.

Senior defender Collin Clatanoff (Phoenix, AZ) got into the scoring act with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute as Stevens built a 9-1 advantage.

Wilkison fed McGreevy up the middle of the field for his fourth and final goal of the game a minute later.

Freshman Jeremy Heiskanen (Hopatcong, NJ) took a Jason Nachman (Johnson City, NY) pass and scored his third goal of the season in the 86th minute. 

Stevens dominated play throughout the match, outshooting Old Westbury, 25-1, in the second half and 37-4 overall. Stevens had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Chris Celentano (Newton, NJ) played the first 78 minutes in goal for the Ducks, registering one save, while allowing Old Westbury’s lone goal. Sophomore Corey Connelly (Louisville, KY) relieved Celentano for the final 11 minutes. He was not tested.

Old Westbury’s Brian Hicks had 14 saves in 82 minutes of action, allowing nine goals. Bryan Smith played the final eight minutes in goal for Old Westbury, making one stop, while surrendering two goals.

Action became spirited at times with officials issuing seven penalty cards during the match. Two Old Westbury individuals were issued red cards and were subsequently ejected from the match.  

The Ducks return to action Wednesday, taking a break from conference play to host Kean at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, NJ
