HOBOKEN, NJ – Junior Chris McGreevy (Rochester Hills, MI) netted his second-consecutive hat trick to power The Stevens Institute of Technology to a 5-0 victory over Kean University Wednesday night at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, NJ. The win – the Ducks’ fourth straight – improves them to 6-3-2 on the season, while Kean falls to 3-6-3.
McGreevy put the Ducks up 1-0 in the 17th minute, sending a shot from nearly 20 yards out that bounced off the left post and in the goal.
Stevens built a 2-0 advantage in the 21st minute as sophomore Mike Kaiser (Roy, UT) corralled the ball away from Kean starting goal keeper Kyle Crego in front of the goal and dribbled the ball into the open goal.
Kaiser then added his second score of the match a little more than two minutes later to put the Ducks up, 3-0. The sophomore continued on the offensive, this time feeding McGreevy for the score from close range in the 38th minute, giving Stevens a 4-0 halftime advantage.
McGreevy added his third and final score of the match in the 58th minute, heading in a cross from freshman Jeremy Lippel (West Orange, NJ) for his seventh goal in the past two games. He scored a career-high four goals, adding two assists in the victory over Old Westbury on Saturday.
The Ducks nearly added a sixth goal with 25 minutes remaining in the contest, but junior George Gkionis’ (Jackson, NJ) shot bounced off the top of the cross bar and out of bounce.
Stevens controlled possession throughout, registering a 23-5 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Corey Connelly (Louisville, KY) earned his first career start in goal for the Ducks. He played the entire match, making three saves. Crego started the game in goal for Kean, making one save, while allowing three goals. Dylan Hastings replaced Crego in goal in the 35th minute and played the rest of the contest. He allowed the final two goals, while recording eight saves.
Stevens will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule in Virginia this Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Roanoke.
