MADISON, NJ – Senior Steve Liebezeit (Pompton Lakes, NJ) and freshman Jeremy Lippel (West Orange, NJ) each scored three goals as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team cruised to its first victory of the season with a 7-0 win at FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon in Madison, NJ. The Ducks improving to 1-2-2 with the win, while the Devils fall to 2-4-0 for the season.
Liebezeit’s first goal came in the 12th minute off an assist from junior Nick Gkionis (Jackson, NJ). Liebezeit struck again four minutes later with an unassisted score.
Stevens entered halftime time with a 3-0 advantage thanks to Lippel’s unassisted goal in the final minute of the opening half.
Liebezeit scored his third and final goal in the 51st minute to give the Ducks a 5-0 lead He leads the team with four goals this season.
Lippel took a feed from sophomore Chris McGreevy (Rochester Hills, MI) to notch his second goal of the contest in the 65th minute.
Sophomore Mike Kaiser (Roy, UT) found freshman Jeremy Heiskanen (Hopatcong, NJ) for the Duck’s sixth goal of the contest in the 77th minute.
Lippel’s third and final goal in the 81st minute rounded out the scoring
Stevens has scored nine goals in its last two matches after beginning the season without a goal in its first three contests.
Stevens controlled possession for nearly the entire contest, surrendering just two shots all match, while recording 16 shots. The Ducks had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Chris Celentano (Newton, NJ) and sophomore Corey Connelly (Louisville, KY) split time in goal for Stevens. Clentano played the first 60 minutes of the match before being replaced by Connelly for the final 30 minutes. Neither keeper was tested, ending the match without a save opportunity.
The Ducks return to action tomorrow, traveling to Poughkeepsie, NY, for a 2 p.m. match with Vassar College.
