Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Drew 7-2

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team earned its second straight win, defeating Drew University, 7-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, NJ. With the win, the Ducks improve their record to 4-3 overall, while the Rangers fall to 2-5 with the loss.

Stevens earned a clean sweep in doubles action.  Sophomore Dana Bacalla (Portland, OR) and junior Jin Bai (Edison, NJ) earned an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Kristin Brown and Meghan Weimer.  The freshmen duo of Whitney Bender (Tijeras, NM) and Rebecca Ryba (Old Brookville, NY) defeated Crystal Vo and Amber Porzio 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Jacqueline Carbone (Basking Ridge, NJ) and junior Vandita Shah (Bloomfield, NJ) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, the Ducks won four of six matches.  Bacalla improved her dual singles match record to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vo at No. 1 singles.  Ryba earned her third win of the season at No. 4 singles, defeating Clarissa Carbonell 6-3, 6-4.    Carbone earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory to improve to 4-3 at No. 5 singles and junior Vandita Shah (Bloomfield, NJ) won at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-3 over Amber Porzio to improve to 4-3 on the season.

The Ducks return to action Sat., Oct. 1 when they travel to Madison, NJ to compete in the NJAIAW Tournament at Drew University.
