BROOKLYN, N.Y. (January 18, 2006) – Senior setter/outside hitter Chris Bock (Empangeri, Republic of South Africa) collected a team-high 13 kills while hitting .765 (13-0-17) as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak with an impressive 3-0 victory (30-14, 30-20, 30-16) over Polytechnic University on Wednesday evening in Brooklyn, N.Y. With the win, the Ducks improved to 3-5 on the year, including 1-0 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division.
Junior outside hitter Sean Whelan (Springfield, Mass.) had a solid showing for Stevens as he finished with five kills while hitting .833 (5-0-6). Senior middle/outside hitter Christian Latoja (Jersey City, N.J.) hit .750 in the match with three kills and no errors in four total attacks.
Sophomore Steven Strollo (Nesconset, N.Y.) continued his fine early-season play as he tallied a team-high 25 assists against the Blue Jays. Freshman outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio (Saint James, N.Y.) had five service aces for the Ducks.
Polytechnic was led by senior middle hitter David Furniss (Levittown, N.Y.), who had seven kills. Junior setter Zach Emnett (St. Louis, Mo.) chipped in with 13 assists.
Stevens out-hit Polytechnic .388 (47-14-85) to -.080 (18-25-88) in the match.
The Ducks will be back in action on Saturday for their home-opener against New York University at 11:00 a.m. Stevens will also face Endicott College at approximately 3 p.m.
