HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 18, 2006) – Sophomore middle blocker Alexa Bianchi (North Caldwell, N.J.) tallied six kills and two blocks in leading the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball to a 30-5, 30-13, 30-23 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, the Ducks improved to 21-4 on the year and 6-0 in the Skyline Conference.
Sophomore setter/right-side hitter Melissa Rhode (New Orleans, La.) had nine assists, nine digs and five service aces against the Mariners (5-13, 3-4 Skyline). Senior setter Micki Biltz (Lakewood, Ohio) finished with 12 assists and 10 service aces. Senior outside hitter/libero Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, Fla.) added 12 digs. Junior right-side hitter JoAnne Pojuner (Princeton Junction, N.J.) contributed six kills for the Ducks.
Stevens, which has won four straight matches and 14 of its last 15 overall, will return to action on Friday when it takes on Union College and Saint Michael’s College as part of the Skidmore College Tournament in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
