PURCHASE, N.Y. (October 21, 2006) – Four different players netted goals in the game as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team cruised past Manhattanville College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Ducks improved to 12-0-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference, while the Valiants fell to 5-8-2 and 1-6-1 in the league with the loss.
Freshman midfielder Al Lockhart (Decatur, Ga.) opened up the scoring for Stevens 10 minutes into the game. Sophomore midfielder Jason Nachman (Johnson City, N.Y.) put the Ducks up by two before the break with his first goal of the season. Stevens out-shot Manhattanville 10-4 in the half.
Stevens dominated the entire second half and did not give up a shot on goal. Senior defender Nick Gkionis (Jackson, N.J.) capitalized on a penalty kick in the 55th minute of the game. The goal was his seventh of the season and gave the Ducks a 3-0 advantage.
Freshman forward Todd Sheridan (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) tallied a goal in his second straight game with less than three minutes remaining to round out the scoring for Stevens.
Junior goalie Corey Connelly (Louisville, Ky.) earned his first win of the season for the Ducks as he made two saves in the game. Senior Francesco Notaristaefano (Somers, N.Y.) made six saves for the Valiants.
The Ducks held a 24-4 advantage in shots and a 4-0 advantage in corners in the game.
Stevens will return to action on Monday when it travels to Newburgh, N.Y. to face Mount Saint Mary College in its fourth straight conference game. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
