Women's Tennis Rolls into Finals of Skyline Tournament with a 9-0 Win over St. Josephs

Tiffany Jow dropped a total of two games in her singles and doubles wins against St. Joseph's.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 25, 2006) – Stevens Institute of Technology put together a dominating performance in the semifinals of the 2006 Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Championship as the top-seeded Ducks dropped a total of eight games en route to a 9-0 victory over No. 4 seed St. Joseph's College (3-6) on Wednesday in Hoboken, N.J.  With the win, Stevens (9-2) advanced to the conference championship match where it will face the winner of Manhattanville College and Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday at noon.

The Ducks began the day by sweeping all three doubles contests in convincing fashion.  Junior Dana Bacalla and senior Jin Bai (Edison, N.J.) posted an 8-1 win over senior Colleen Fitzgerald (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and freshman Kelly Crawford ( East Islip, N.Y. ) at first doubles.  In the second flight, sophomores Whitney Bender and Rebecca Ryba cruised past sophomores Melissa Carlin (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Jessica McDonald ( St. James, N.Y. ), 8-0.  Junior Jacqueline Carbone and freshman Tiffany Jow  defeated junior Marie Davi (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and freshman Janelle Curella ( Manorville, N.Y. ) by the score of 8-1 at third doubles.

In singles play, Bacalla blanked Fitzgerald 6-0, 6-0 in the first position.  Bender won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) against Crawford at No. 2 singles.  Bai and Ryba earned shutout victories at third and fourth singles, respectively.  Jow dropped just one game against Davi at No. 5 singles.  Carbone rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win versus Curella at sixth singles.

Stevens is seeking its first Skyline Conference title since winning back-to-back league championships in 2000 and 2001.  The Ducks have lost in the finals of the postseason tournament in each of the past three seasons.
