Women’s Volleyball Cruises to 3-0 Victory against St. Joseph’s

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 1, 2006) – Senior setter Micki Biltz (Lakewood, Ohio) tallied 33 assists, 12 digs and four service aces in leading the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team to its fifth straight victory as the Ducks defeated St. Joseph’s College 30-18, 30-20, 30-10 in the regular-season finale for both teams on Wednesday at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J.  With the win, Stevens improved to 29-5 on the year.  The Golden Eagles fell to 20-14 with the loss.

Stevens has earned the top seed for the Skyline Conference Championship and will host the postseason tournament on Saturday.  In the first semifinal of the day, the Ducks will square off against fourth-seeded St. Joseph’s at 10 a.m.  Second-seeded Farmingdale State University and third-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury will meet in the other semifinal at noon.  The winners of both matches will meet to decide the conference championship and automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament at 3 p.m.

During Wednesday’s match, junior right-side hitter JoAnne Pojuner (Princeton Junction, N.J.) hit .625 with five kills and no errors in eight total attempts.  Senior outside hitter/libero Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, Fla.) led the team with 17 digs.  Sophomore middle blocker Alexa Bianchi (West Caldwell, N.J.) added five kills.  Sophomore setter/right-side hitter Melissa Rhode (New Orleans, La.) finished with seven digs, five kills and three blocks.  Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Petrocelli (Norwood, N.J.) chipped in with four kills and two digs.
