HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 11, 2006) – Freshman forward Terrance Johnson (Slidell, La.) recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team past the University of Rochester in a NCAA Division III Championship Second Round game played at the College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Ducks (18-0-2) earn their fourth-straight trip to the sectional round of the tournament.
Johnson started the scoring for Stevens in the 17th minute of the game off a pass from junior midfielder Craig Moquin (Breinigsville, Pa.). Moquin sent a pass from the right side, and Johnson headed the ball into the right side of the net to give the Ducks the 1-0 advantage.
Exactly four minutes later, Johnson increased Stevens lead to 2-0 on a long pass up field by senior defender Brandon Schaefer (Albuquerque, N.M.). Freshman forward Todd Sheridan (Galloway, N.J.) added a goal for the Ducks at the 25-minute mark off a cross from Johnson from the right corner. Junior defender Sean Bliss (Phoenix, Ariz.) picked up an assist on the play as he tipped the ball over to Sheridan in front of the net.
Freshman midfielder Al Lockhart (Decatur, Ga.) added a goal for Stevens 2:05 later on a pass from senior midfielder Chris McGreevy (Rochester, Mich.). Freshman forward Brian Weldon (Holland, N.J.) picked up his second goal of the season to round out the scoring for Stevens in the first half. McGreevy picked up his second assist of the day on the play.
Rochester got on the board in the 70th minute of the game on a header by senior forward Tyler Green (Dallas, Texas). Junior defender Nick Mikolenko (Fairport, N.Y.) added the Yellowjackets second goal of the day in the 83rd minute of the game. Junior midfielder Patrick Ripp (Wilmington, Del.) picked up the assists on both goals for Rochester.
The Ducks owned a 20-14 advantage in shots in the game.
Stevens will learn of its opponent for the NCAA Sectionals tomorrow following the completion of the New York University, Roger Williams University, Middlebury College and St. Lawrence University bracket. The date, time, and location of that game will be announced on Sunday evening.
