Men’s Volleyball Moves to 13-0 in NECVA Metro with Three-Game Sweep of NJCU

Chris Bock had 13 kills and 12 digs as Stevens topped No. 14 New Jersey City, 3-0.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 20, 2006) – Senior setter/outside hitter Chris Bock (Empangeri, Republic of South Africa) posted a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs to go along with three service aces in leading the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team to a 30-17, 30-25, 30-16 victory over 14th-ranked New Jersey City University on Monday evening at Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J.  With the win, the seventh-ranked Ducks recorded their second straight victory while improving to 22-10 on the year.  Stevens also ran its record to 13-0 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro Division.

Senior outside hitter Greg Higgins (Kenmore, N.Y.) had a solid performance with 10 kills.  Higgins hit .421 in the match with only two attack errors in 19 total attempts.  Junior middle hitter Will Foley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished with seven kills, five digs and five total blocks.  Junior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) led all players with 49 assists.

Meanwhile, junior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) chipped in with seven kills.  Freshman middle hitter Andrew Cranford (Bel Air, Md.) hit .545 (8-2-11) with six digs.

The Gothic Knights had their two-match win streak come to an end on Monday as they fell to 16-6 (8-5 NECVA Metro) on the year.  Junior setter Maurice Washington (Orlando, Fla.) tallied 14 assists and eight digs in the loss.  Freshman outside hitter Kevin Rodgers (Clifton, N.J.) registered four kills and three digs for NJCU.  Junior middle blocker/outside hitter Carlos Ducos (Passaic, N.J.) collected four kills and four digs.

Stevens, which has won 19 straight contests against the Gothic Knights dating back to February of 1998, out-hit New Jersey City .259 (53-24-112) to -.077 (15-23-104) in the match.

The Ducks will look to complete a perfect regular season in the NECVA Metro Division on Tuesday when they host Bard College at 7 p.m.  On March 1, Stevens claimed a 3-1 win over the Raptors in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
