HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 20, 2006) – Senior forward Alison Capelli (Mt. Holly, N.J.) netted the game-winner in the second half to lead Richard Stockton College past the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team, 1-0, on Wednesday at DeBaun Field.  With the loss, the Ducks dropped to 6-2, while the Ospreys moved to 3-3 with the win.

Stevens dominated play in the first half, but failed to capitalize on its offensive opportunities.

With 26:23 on the clock, sophomore midfielder Hillary Paul (Concord, N.H.) fired a hard shot, but senior goalkeeper Caitlin Nolan (Riverside, N.J.) came up with the save.  Three minutes later, Paul sent a pass to freshman forward Courtney Geddis (Jackson, N.J.), but Nolan was able to keep the ball out of the net.

With 8:30 elapsed in the second half, Stockton had a chance to score, but the Stevens defense kept them from getting a shot off.  The Ducks got the ball back down in their zone, but were not able to find the back of the net.

Senior midfielder Kristen Woodrow (West Deptford, N.J.) found Capelli near the goal with under 10 minutes to play in the game.  Capelli collected the pass about eight-yards out and put the ball past sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, Del.).

Paul led Stevens offensively with six shots, while sophomore forward Jessica Megill (Clark, N.J.) and Geddis chipped in with three shots apiece.

The Ducks held a 13-5 edge in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corners.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Elmira, N.Y. to play Elmira College in a conference match-up.  The game is slated for 1 p.m.
