ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Ethan Hagen and
Gabi Moroney of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer and field hockey teams, respectively, were named Senior Scholar-Athletes by the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), as revealed by the league office on Wednesday.
The MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes, first recognized in the 2000-01 academic year, are traditionally announced after the completion of each sport season and given to one senior student-athlete from each sport who exhibits top academic excellence and athletic prowess. The MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award is based 50 percent on academics and 50 percent on athletic achievements.
Hagen becomes the second Stevens men's soccer student-athlete to earn one of the conference's highest individual honors, the first being Bruno Andino during the 2023-24 season. It's the latest in a laundry list of postseason accolades for Hagen, both athletically and academically-based, which already include: United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American, College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, Academic All-MAC, First Team All-MAC Freedom, and MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year.
Moroney is the first Stevens field hockey student-athlete to win the honor since the program joined the conference prior to the 2019-20 season. In addition to the Senior Scholar-Athlete honor, Moroney has already racked up National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American, NFHCA All-Region, NFHCA Division III Senior Team, Academic All-MAC, and First Team All-MAC Freedom recognition since the end of the Fall season.
In the classroom, Hagen has sported a 3.91 GPA in mechanical engineering, thrice earning Academic All-District recognition. Moroney boasts a 3.87 GPA in biomedical engineering, earning MAC Academic Honor Roll four times and NFHCA National Academic Squad three times.
