FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (September 23, 2006) – Making her collegiate debut, freshman goalkeeper Sherri Rosenberg (Bayonne, N.J.) picked up her first career shutout while making two saves as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team improved to 3-2-2 (1-0 Skyline Conference) on the year with a 2-0 victory over Farmingdale State University (1-4-2, 0-1 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon at Nold Hall in Farmingdale, N.Y. Sophomore back Salme Cook (Fairfax, Va.) and sophomore forward Meghan Tennyson (Folsom, La.) scored for the Ducks in the game.
With 6:11 elapsed in the contest, Stevens took advantage of a corner kick as junior forward/back Sara Roeder (Portland, Ore.) found Cook, who headed the ball inside the far post for the game’s first goal. The Ducks continued to dominate the action in the first half as they out-shot the Rams 15-2 in the period. Stevens also owned a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes of the game.
With four seconds remaining in the first half, Tennyson collected her first goal of the season as she received a pass from junior midfielder Siena York-Carr (Davis, Calif.) at the top of the box and ripped a shot past freshman goalkeeper Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, N.Y.).
For the game, Stevens out-shot Farmingdale 22-5. The Ducks had six corner kicks to just two by the Rams. Sontag kept FSU in the game by making eight saves.
Stevens will be right back in action on Sunday when the Ducks take on New York University at the College of Staten Island at 2 p.m.
