Freshman Terrance Johnson netted his team-leading eighth goal as Stevens defeated Vassar.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 27, 2006) Freshman midfielder Al Lockhart (Decatur, Ga.) and freshman forward Terrance Johnson (Slidell, La.) each netted goals as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team defeated Vassar College, 3-1, on Wednesday night at DeBaun Field.  With the win, the Ducks improved to 8-0-1 overall, while the Brewers dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

With just 2:27 elapsed in the game, junior defender Sean Bliss (Phoenix, Az.) sent a pass to Lockhart from the ride side.  Lockhart chipped the ball over sophomore goalie Jason Cetel (Cherry Hill, N.J.) from inside the six-yard mark to give Stevens a 1-0 advantage.

At the 38:57 mark, Bliss crossed the ball in front of the net and a Vassar player tapped the ball into its own net, increasing the Ducks’ lead to 2-0.

However, the Brewers got within one before the break as they took advantage of an own goal by the Ducks with 1:51 remaining in the half.

Johnson put the game away just over three minutes into the second half on a pass from senior midfielder Chris McGreevy (Rochester, Mich.).  The goal was Johnson’s eighth of the season.

The Ducks controlled possession in the game and out-shot the Brewers 17-6.

McGreevy led Stevens offensively with five shots.  Sophomore forward Jeremy Lippel (West Orange, N.J.) chipped in with three.

Senior goalkeeper Chris Celentano (Netwon, N.J.) earned the win for Stevens and registered two saves in the game.  Cetel totaled seven for the Brewers.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday when it hosts SUNY College at Old Westbury at 3:30 p.m.
