WAYNE, N.J. (October 17, 2007) – Two tallies notched in a ten-minute span lifted William Paterson University over the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team on Wednesday night at Wightman Stadium by a 2-0 decision. With the defeat, the Ducks slide down to 11-4 on the season while the Pioneers improve their record to 10-4.
William Paterson opened up the scoring in the 61st-minute when junior forward Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J.) redirected a shot off a corner by junior midfielder Tina Londino (Gloucester City, N.J.). Four minutes later, the Pioneers put the game away for good when sophomore midfielder Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J.) placed the ball on the end-line of the field. She then found sophomore forward Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J.) in front of the cage, who notched her eighth goal of the season after putting a shot past the Stevens' junior goalkeeper Stephanie Smith.
Smith made a game-high six saves for the Ducks while sophomore goaltender Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J.) turned aside three shots for the Pioneers, who held an 11-5 shot advantage in the match. William Paterson also held a 10-6 edge in penalty corners.
Head Coach Jessica Reed and her squad return to action this Saturday when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for their final road contest of the 2007 season against the Bombers of Ithaca College. The game is also a match-up of two Empire 8 rivals. Action gets underway from Yavits Field at 1 p.m.
