Stevens Sweeps Stockton as it Posts 20th Consecutive Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 17, 2007) – Junior outside hitter Melissa Rhode registered a team high 11 kills as the 21st-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Richard Stockton College in three games (30-27, 30-22, 30-25). Having earned its 20th consecutive win the Ducks move to 26-1 on the season. Rhode finished with 19 assists, 17 digs and a pair of blocks as she posted her 11th triple-double of the season, the most of any player in the country for Division III.

Senior outside hitter Dawn Herring and senior right-side hitter JoAnne Pojuner had impressive performances on a night where Stevens recognized its seniors as this was the last regular season home match for the ladies. Herring recorded 10 kills, seven digs and one ace, while Pojuner totaled four kills, two assists and a pair of digs.

Freshman setter Kaitlyn Taylor posted 17 assists with five digs and three service aces. Junior middle blocker Jessica Gardner produced six kills, two blocks and a single ace.as freshman libero Julia Reilly finished with 17 digs. Junior outside hitter Melanie Volk accumulated 12 digs, 10 kills and three blocks in the victory.

Stockton fought hard as it led early in each of the games despite the fact the Ducks won in three. The Ospreys were led by junior outside hitter Amanda Burkart (Cresskill, N.J.) who recorded a team high 16 kills with a pair of service aces. Senior outside hitter Nicole Williams (Williamstown, N.J.) totaled 12 digs and eight kills, while junior setter Christine Aletras Ridgewood, N.J.) finished with 30 assists.

With tonight's win Stevens produced its fourth consecutive season where it has posted over 25 wins. The Ducks will return to play this weekend as it will finish off its conference play by traveling to Alfred, N.Y. to take on St. John Fisher College then Alfred University on Saturday at noon and 2:30 p.m. The Ducks are slotted to play Elmira College on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. start against Utica College.
