HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 1, 2007) – Sophomore defender Chris Faustino notched the game-winning tally via a penalty shot with 3:41 remaining in the first overtime period on Monday night at the De Baun Athletic Complex as the seventh-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team won its sixth consecutive contest after defeating Kean University, 1-0. With the victory, the Ducks improved to 9-0-2 on the year, while the Cougars fell to 4-7.
After a restart in play, Stevens kicked the ball into the box where it was hand-touched by a Kean player. A foul was first called by the referee, who then signaled for a penalty shot for the Ducks. Instantly, Faustino stepped back a few feet and then punched a shot past the Cougars' diving freshman goaltender Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield, N.J.), who stopped a game-high eight shots on the evening.
Freshman goalkeeper Zach Carr turned two shots aside for the Ducks, who owned a 25-7 shot advantage in the match. They also held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Tim O'Donohue and his team continue their five-game homestand this Saturday when the Ducks take on the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College. The opening kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and all of the action can be seen at www.Empire8.tv.
