ITHACA N.Y. (November 18, 2007) - The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team dropped two matches to Cornell University (9-18) and John Hopkins University (11-16) before it landed a win over Yeshiva University (22-5) on Sunday afternoon in upstate Ithaca, N.Y. Junior Rachel Cannell led the way for the Ducks in epee as she went 6-1 on the day.

The Ducks received solid performances from senior epeeist Emily Freier and junior sabreiest Laura Sodon. Freier went 5-4 in her meets, while Sodon closed out with a 6-3 performance. The Ducks improved from last year's mark against Division I foe Cornell, when they suffered a 23-4 defeat.

Making her debut as a starter in sabre, sophomore Katelyn Seager posted an impressive 2-1 win over the top-favorite Cornell. All 17 of the Stevens fencer's saw action in the annual Cornell Invitational held at it's Stifel Fencing Salle.

“I am really pleased with today's performance,” said Head Coach Linda Vollkommer-Lynch. “I felt that the Hopkins match could have gone either way; as there was a large improvement from last year's contest. I feel confident in our next meet when we face them again at the EWFC event in February,” added Vollkommer.

The Ducks return to action on Sunday, December 2 at 8 a.m. when they compete in the NIWFA Christmas Invitational in Jersey City, N.J.
