UTICA, N.Y. (September 15, 2007) – On Saturday, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team continued its tremendous early-season play with a 7-0 victory over Utica College in Utica, N.Y. Two individual matches were unable to be completed before the overall contest was halted due to rain. Saturday's win pushed the Ducks record to 7-0 on the year. Stevens, which dropped a total of one game against the Pioneers, is now 5-0 in Empire 8 play.
In doubles action, the Ducks rolled to three 8-0 victories. Senior Dana Bacalla and freshman Allyson Kingman were victorious in the first flight. Juniors Whitney Bender and Rebecca Ryba did not drop a game at second doubles. Sophomore Natalie Schloeder teamed with freshman Kendra Appleheimer for a win in the third flight against Utica (0-5, 0-4 Empire 8).
Bacalla, Bender and Kingman all posted 6-0, 6-0 victories in first through third singles, respectively. Appleheimer claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Ryba led 5-0 in the first set in her match at fifth singles before it was halted. Schloeder was on top 3-0 in the first set before the rain came.
Stevens will return to action on Sunday with a match at noon against Hartwick College. That contest will take place in Oneonta, N.Y.
