HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 26, 2007) – Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Smith registered a new single game record for saves with 17 stops on Wednesday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team glided to its third straight win after defeating DeSales University by a final score of 4-1. Smith broke a mark that she previously set at FDU-Florham on October 22, 2005 after turning aside 13 shots.

Stevens (7-2) reached the scoreboard first in the 19th-minute when freshman midfielder Karen Federico  pushed a shot from 11 yards out into the left corner of the cage. Five minutes later, freshman forward Allison Basile gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead when she tipped-in a shot into the right corner of the net on a feed from sophomore forward Kara Borzillo. Shortly thereafter, freshman forward Lauren Griggs added another score just before the end of the first half. Junior midfielder Allison Shields was credited with the assist.

Two minutes into the latter stanza, Griggs wasted no time getting back to work as she tallied her second goal of the game on a tip-in off a shot that originally hit the post by junior midfielder Hillary Paul. DeSales (3-6) capped off the scoring in the 70th-minute when freshman midfielder/forward Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, Pa.)  notched a score off a save by Smith.

Sophomore goaltender Molly Pope (Elkridge, Md.) made eight saves on the afternoon for the Bulldogs, who held a 24-19 shot advantage in the match. Both squads accounted for nine penalty corners each.

Head Coach Jessica Reed and the Ducks return to action this Saturday when they travel to Madison, N.J. to square off with the Devils of Fairleigh Dickinson University. The opening face-off is slated for 5 p.m.
