ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 8, 2007) – Despite the fact that a rainstorm forced the women's tennis match between Stevens Institute of Technology and Alfred University to be moved to the indoor facility at Rochester Institute of Technology, the Ducks ran their record to 4-0 on the year with a 7-2 victory over the Saxons (0-1, 0-1 Empire 8) on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y. Stevens captured two of three doubles flights then won five singles matches to improve to 3-0 in conference play this season.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Dana Bacalla and freshman Allyson Kingman defeated the tandem of senior Katie Calfee (Kirkwood, Mo.) and junior Elana Lewis (East Greenbush, N.Y.) by the score of 8-4. Juniors Whitney Bender and Rebecca Ryba suffered an 8-5 loss at second doubles to seniors Jodi Butterfoss (Elizabethtown, Pa.) and Desiree Woods (Bradford, Pa.). In the third flight, sophomore Natalie Schloeder and freshman Kendra Appleheimer posted an 8-6 win over sophomore Holly Seidewand (Webster, N.Y.) and freshman Autumn McLain (Oneida, N.Y.).

In singles action, Bacalla knocked off Calfee in the first flight (6-1, 6-2). Bender was a straights-sets winner (6-3, 6-1) against Butterfoss at No. 2 singles. Kingman needed just two sets (6-3, 6-0) to knock off Seidewand at third singles. Appleheimer dropped a total of one game in her 6-1, 6-0 win against Woods at fourth singles. Ryba was pushed to three sets before prevailing with a 2-6, 6-0, 10-8 victory over Lewis in the fifth flight. Schloeder fell to McLain 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles.

The Ducks will be right back in action on Sunday as they take on St. John Fisher College at 11 a.m. in Rochester. Stevens will also be on the road on Wednesday when it meets Kean University at 3:30 p.m.
