Men's Tennis Moves to 4-0 in Empire 8 Action With 9-0 Blanking of Hartwick

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 6, 2008) – On Sunday afternoon, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team notched its fifth-consecutive win and seventh of its last nine with a 9-0 victory against Empire 8 opponent Hartwick College at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks went to 8-5 overall and 4-0 in league action. As for the Hawks, they fell to 2-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Ricky Bawa and freshman Arik Zeevy rolled past seniors Dan Riviello (Clyde, N.Y.) and Dan Meininger (Cassville, N.Y.), 8-2. In the second-doubles match, freshmen Zhi Wei Ko and Jay Lee registered an 8-0 shutout of senior Eric DesRoberts (Biddeford, Maine) and freshman Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.). In the third-doubles flight, freshman Jason Ringstad and sophomore Piotr Rusinkiewicz downed seniors Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) and Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.J.) by the score of 8-1.

Ko led off singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Riviello at No. 1 singles. Zeevy came out victorious in straight-sets (6-2, 6-0) against Meininger in the second flight. Bawa, who has now won eight consecutive matches, defeated DesRoberts 6-0, 6-0 in the third-singles match. At No. 4 singles, Barr got four games off of Rusinkiewicz but still lost by the count of 6-2, 6-2. In the fifth flight, Ringstad posted a 6-0, 6-0 win against Altman. Lastly, in the sixth-singles clash, Lee won a 6-0, 6-1 match over Hughes.

Stevens returns to action this Tuesday as it wraps up a three-game homestand against Fairleigh Dickinson University. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
