Men's Tennis Wins Sixth Match in a Row with 9-0 Victory against FDU-Florham

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 8, 2008) – Freshman Jay Lee lost a total of one game in posting a pair of victories as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team blanked Fairleigh Dickinson University by the final score of 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Hoboken, N.J. Lee defeated freshman Andrew Scamporino (Secaucus, N.J.) in straight-sets (6-0, 6-1) at fifth singles and teamed with freshman Arik Zeevy for an 8-0 win over freshmen John Gaw (Washington, N.J.) and Wes Harnett (Long Valley, N.J.) at second doubles as the Ducks recorded their sixth victory in a row to improve to 9-5 on the year.

Stevens did not drop a game en route to winning all three doubles matches by identical 8-0 counts against the Devils (7-5), who had their six-match winning streak come to an end. At No. 1 doubles, senior Ricky Bawa and sophomore Piotr Rusinkiewicz defeated junior Adam Geiger (Mountainside, N.J.) and sophomore Alex Bruin (Albuquerque, N.M.). After Zeevy and Lee were victorious in the second flight, freshman Jason Ringstad and Carlo Pardo improved to 6-1 as a team with their victory over freshman Kevin Ly (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Scamporino at third doubles.

Bawa won his ninth-straight singles match as he topped Geiger in straight-sets (6-2, 7-5) in the first flight. Zeevy took down Bruin 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Rusinkiewicz picked up his 10th singles victory of the season and won his sixth match in a row with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Harnett at third singles. Ringstad won his sixth-straight match and improved to 10-6 in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Gaw in the fourth flight. After Lee beat Scamporino at fifth singles, junior Kobe Attias defeated Ly by the final score of 6-0, 6-1 In the sixth-singles spot.

Stevens is scheduled to play two matches this weekend. First, the Ducks will take on Ithaca College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y. The Ducks and Bombers are both unbeaten in Empire 8 play. The winner of that match will have a leg up on securing the top seed for the postseason tournament later this month. Then, on Sunday, Stevens will play Elmira College at 1 p.m. in Elmira, N.Y.
