PURCHASE, N.Y. (September 17, 2008) – Junior Kara Borzillo scored her ninth goal of the season in the 13th minute as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team continued its impressive start to 2008 with a 1-0 win over Manhattanville College on Wednesday evening in Purchase, N.Y. Sophomore Ellyn Griggs was in goal for the Ducks and earned her fourth shutout of the season as Stevens ended the contest with an astounding 21-1 shot advantage.

Stevens (6-0) played well despite only finding net once in 21 shots. They controlled the ball and field position as the midfield dictated the action throughout the contest. Senior Allison Shields, senior Kerri Polidore, freshman Mallory Swanson, and junior Jessica Ablonczy did a fantastic job keeping the ball in the Manhattanville zone.

Borzillo's goal was setup by a penalty corner. Junior Erin Broderick assisted as she hit out to Borzillo who controlled and was able to find net from the left side.

Natalie Fecteau (Augusta, Maine) was in goal for Manhattanville (1-3). She played well, making 12 saves.

The Ducks did a nice job taking quality shots as they put 14 of 21 shots on goal. They also held a 14-0 advantage in penalty corners.

“I thought we played well throughout, especially our midfield,” Head Coach Jessica Reed said following the game. “We had trouble scoring but we also have to give credit to their defense. They did a nice job keeping their team in the game.”

Stevens now has five shutouts as a team and have only allowed three goals the entire season.

The Ducks will open their Empire 8 schedule on Saturday by hosting Nazareth College. The game is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
