BRONX, N.Y. (September 24, 2008) – Senior captain Jeremy Lippel scored in his first game in nearly three weeks as the No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team was able to overcome a one goal deficit to New York University and earn a 1-1 draw at Gaelic Park in the Bronx, N.Y. on Wednesday night. Lippel's goal came in the 66th-minute and was assisted by junior captain Todd Sheridan. The draw moves Stevens to 7-1-1 overall.

Sophomore Zach Carr was in goal for the Ducks as he was credited with two saves on the night. Junior Marek Urbaneski (Burlingame, Calif.) made six saves for NYU, including a crucial stop late in regulation.

Stevens took 17 shots over the course of the game, putting seven on goal. The Ducks out-cornered the Lions 10-1 overall as they controlled the last 65-minutes of the contest.

Senior Branden Neal (Yarmouth, Maine) put the Violets ahead 1-0 at the 21:42 mark when he was able to head home a cross from sophomore Logan Smith (Alburtus, Pa.). It was Neal's team-best seventh goal of the season.

Stevens consistently controlled possession and pushed into the NYU (3-2-3) zone after falling behind. Eventually, a run by Sheridan set up Lippel, who blasted a rocket into the top-left corner with 23:48 remaining in regulation to force a 1-1 tie. The shot came from 12-yards out and was Lippel's fourth goal of the season.

The Ducks could have ended things in the first 90 minutes, but a Nolan Sandberg header hit the post at 84:19 before a shot by 2007 All-American Terrence Johnson was stopped by Urbanski at 86:38.

Stevens finished with a 17-8 advantage in shots.

“I thought our guys played extremely well, but we were disappointed we did not get the win” said Stevens Head Coach Tim O'Donohue. “We came back nicely after a counter attack goal, and their goalkeeper played a fantastic game in net.”

The Ducks will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Elmira College. It is the Empire 8 opener for Stevens, and the game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
