Majcher Powers Women's Volleyball Past Polytechnic

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (October 12, 2009) – Junior Maggie Majcher tallied 15 kills, 19 digs, and six blocks to power a short-handed Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team past Polytechnic, 3-2 (25-16, 25-27, 24-26, 25-22, 15-12). Despite playing without regular starters Sarah Byrne and Julia Reilly the Ducks captured their 12th win in their last 14 matches to move to 16-7 on the season with a 4-0 league ledger.

After hitting .303 en route to a 25-16 win in the first set, the Ducks found themselves down 2-1 after a pair of close, 27-25 and 26-24 losses in the second and third sets. Stevens would rally for a 25-22 win in the fourth set before closing out the Blue Jays with a 15-12 victory in the fifth and final set.

Freshman Maggie Kowalska added 13 kills in the win, while seniors Laura Johnson and Brittany Fuller each finished with 10 kills to help round out a balanced Stevens attack. Johnson also added 21 digs, while Fuller recorded five blocks. Junior setter Sara Budar collected 41 assists, with sophomore Kate Janes adding 11 digs in defense. Freshman Michelle Plotzker chipped in with five kills.

The Ducks close out their regular season home slate at Canavan Arena with Senior Day against New Jersey City University on Saturday, October 17.
