ELMIRA, N.Y. (October 17, 2009) – Despite a 30-7 advantage in shots and a 15-0 edge in corners, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team fell to Empire 8 foe Elmira, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at campus Field in Elmira, N.Y. Freshman Erik Lee (Suffied, Conn.) scored the game-winner in the 26th minute and sophomore Edward Michelson (Winsted, Conn.) was able to tally a rebound after a blocked shot for Elmira. The loss drops the Ducks to 3-1-1 in the conference and is just the second time the Ducks have lost to a conference opponent since joining the Empire 8 in 2007.

On wet and cold day, Stevens was unable to get the touches they needed to find the back of the net and were held scoreless for the second time in as many games. The Ducks took 15 shots in each period but Elmira (7-4-1 overall, 2-2 Empire 8) goalkeeper Jared Micheller (Avon, Conn.) was up to the challenge, making a total of 14 saves.

Stevens had numerous set-piece chances on corners and after Soaring Eagle fouls but just were unable to score.

Junior goalkeeper Zach Carr allowed his first goals in more than six games. He was credited with four saves in the loss.

Lee's goal was his fourth of the season and came on a perfect shot from 25 yards out. Michelson's was his first and came after a blocked shot. The ball bounced out to the sophomore, who controlled, made one move to his left and ripped a shot just inside the left post.

The loss is the second in Stevens' last 58 regular-season conference contests dating back to 2004.

Stevens will return to action against Rutgers University-Camden on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 8 p.m. and will be webcast live at www.pennatlantic.com/main.php.
