PITTSFORD, N.Y. (October 4, 2009) – Junior Nolan Sandberg was able to score after a nice pass from senior Terrence Johnson less than five minutes into the second half as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team defeated host St. John Fisher College, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium in Pittsford, N.Y. With the win, the Ducks improve to 9-2-0 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8. In its three conference wins, Stevens has outscored the opposition 7-0.

The game-winner occurred at the 49:56 mark. Johnson made several moves on the right side and angled in toward the goal. When he was about 25 yards out, he slipped a pass to Sandberg in the middle of the box (12 yards away) who was able to slip his shot past Fisher goalkeeper Adam Durst (Rochester, N.Y.). The goal was the fourth of 2009 for Sandberg, who has been playing better and better with each game of the season. The assist was Johnson's second.

Though the box score does not necessarily say it, Stevens controlled much of the action and the Cardinals did not put a shot on goal until the second half. The Ducks ended the game with a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 2-1 edge in corners. In the game's final 15 minutes, Fisher was able to take some long attempts but Stevens' junior goalkeeper Zach Carr was up to the task. He made four saves and combined with the rest of the Duck defense to pitch their seventh shutout and fourth in a row.

The last 15 minutes of the contest saw the game get very chippy. Fisher picked up three yellow cards as the Cardinals ended the contest getting whistled for 16 fouls compared to 11 for the Ducks.

Since dropping a heartbreaker at York College two weeks ago, Stevens has won its last four games by a combined score of 12-0. Overall, the Ducks have scored 22 goals and only allowed four.

Stevens will return to action when it hosts New Jersey City University on October 7. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will be webcast live. Check www.StevensDucks.com for links the day of the game.
