HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 4, 2009) – Freshman Brooke Catanzano recorded the Ducks only wins as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team fell to Ithaca College, 7-2, at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. The Northport N.Y. native teamed up with teammate Morgan Scalzi to score a win in second-flight doubles before defeating Ithaca junior Melissa Nunez (Rockaway, N.J.), 6-2, 6-1, in fifth-flight singles action. The Ducks are now 8-2 on the season with a 5-1 league ledger, while Ithaca, which has not lost to an Empire 8 opponent in 36 matches, moved to 4-0 on the year and 3-0 in conference action.

Stevens junior Allyson Kingman and sophomore Nicole Portner lost to freshman Cristina Nunez (Rockaway, N.J.) and junior Melissa Cohen (Ambler, Pa.), 8-6, in No. 1 doubles in the day's first match, before Catanzano and Scalzi knotted the match at one with an 8-5 win in No. 2 doubles. Ithaca would regain the lead with an 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles, before taking control of the match with four consecutive singles victories to take a 6-1 advantage.

Catanzano would momentarily quell the Bombers run with a win in No. 5 singles before Ithaca closed out the match with sophomore Kelsey Harness' (Allegan, Mich.) 6-2, 7-5, win over freshman Alexandra Handel in No. 6 singles.

Stevens returns to action against Ramapo College on Wednesday, October 7.
