MEDFORD, Mass. (November 22, 2009) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team went 3-0 Sunday at the Tufts University Invitational to move their record to 9-2 on the young season, including a blemish-free 9-0 mark against Division III competition. The highlight of the tournament for the Ducks was Senior Erica Mondadori, who went 7-2 at the tournament and reached an important individual milestone. The seven wins gave Mondadori exactly 100 victories in her career at Stevens, a mark reached by only one other Sabreist in school history.

The Ducks soundly defeated Tufts University and Yeshiva University by the identical score of 23-4, and went on to beat Wellesley College by a score of 17-10.

“This was a great trip for our team today,” said head coach Linda Vollkommer-Lynch. “Sometimes it's tough to come up to the Northeast and play well against the great schools up here, but we beat some of the best teams they had to offer today. I'm also very happy for Erica, who has had a wonderful career for us”

All three weapons had good showings at Sunday's event. Along with the captain and weapon leader Mondadori's historic day, the Sabre squad also received great performances from freshman Juliet Turalski (6-1) and sophomore Krista Sticco (5-1).

The Epee squad was lead by Meagan Ritter, who went 8-1 on the day. Ritter was complemented by solid performances by Briana Nieradkae and Krystal Perkins, who both had five wins, and Clara Luneke and Stephanie Spelman, who both had two. All five women on the Epee squad posted only one loss each.

At Foil, Alexandra Lyons and Alexis Clyburn both had 5-1 records, while sophomore Trinity Sheppard was the only undefeated member of the Ducks with a 3-0 record. Weapon leader Danielle Bisson also had a solid day with the sword, going 6-3.

Stevens will be back in action on December 6, as they will take part in the NIWFA Christmas Invitational in nearby Jersey City, N.J. beginning at 8 a.m. It will be their last competition before the New Year.
