WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (January 31, 2009) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team fell to No. 25 Lycoming College on Wednesday evening in Williamsport, Pa. Stevens got wins from four of its 10 wrestlers, and junior 157-pounder Leo Dormann won his 14th-straight bout. The loss drops the Ducks to 10-8 on the season as they will get a week to rest prior to their final Centennial Conference weekend of the season.
The Stevens wins came from junior heavyweight James Roarty, senior 197-pounder Valentin Riazanov, freshman 174-pounder Ryan Dormann, and Leo Dormann.
Lycoming won the first four bouts of the match earning a major decision, a technical fall, a pin and a decision at 125, 133, 141, and 149, respectively.
Leo Dormann, who has beaten his last 10 opponents in dual-match competition, won a thrilling, 12-10 decision over Zachary Frederick (West Chester, Pa.). The two were knotted at the end of three periods and Dormann earned a takedown early in the sudden-death overtime to score the win and get the Ducks on the board.
Freshman Joe Favia wrestled extremely tough against tenth-ranked Chris Dalheimer (Felton, Pa.), falling 1-0 at 165 lbs. Ryan Dormann got the second win of the day in the 174-lb. weight class with a 3-0 decision and Riazanov earned a decision over Bryan Kopesky (Phillipsburg, N.J.). Stevens' final win came from Roarty at 285 lbs. as he too earned a 4-0 decision over Rick Ausem (Towanda, Pa.).
The Ducks will return to completive action on February 14 at Gettysburg College. They will face Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins University.
