HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 28, 2009) – Sophomores Jason Ringstad and Arik Zeevy each posted straight sets in singles play, and teamed to post an 8-0 score at first doubles, as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team started Empire 8 play with a 9-0 win over Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken, N.J. With the victory, the Ducks improve to 6-2 on the year as the Golden Flyers fall to 1-9.
Stevens swept in doubles play as the junior-senior combination of Piotr Rusinkiewicz and Kobe Attias started things off with an 8-0 victory at second doubles over sophomore Adam Landry (Macedon, N.Y.) and junior Stephen Trobert (Jamesville, N.Y.). After Ringstand and Zeevy won in straight sets, the tandem of freshman Gregory Klose and sophomore Jay Lee defeated juniors Ben Caiella (Cicero, N.Y.) and Dan Matteo (Batavia, N.Y.).
Zeevy and Ringstad posted straight-set victories over upended Landry and Trobert at first and second singles, respectively. Lee took down junior Alexander Bodensieck (Glenville, N.Y.) (6-0, 6-1) at No. 4 singles as Rusinkiewicz overcame junior Alex Wilczak (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-4 at third singles. Sophomore Carlo Pardo and sophomore Ryan Wilson concluded the match with a 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 4-6, 10-1 wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Stevens will return to the courts at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning in Madison, N.J. The Ducks will continue Empire 8 play as they take on Rochester Institute of Technology.
